The funeral procession for Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Labor, traveled from the mortuary chapel in San Antonio to the Katy train bound for Sleepy Hollow cemetery in New York. Gompers died at the Saint Anthony hotel after a illness in Mexico City and was laid to rest with labor leaders acting as pallbearers.

Navy to Acquire Helium from Amarillo Gas Fields

Mayor Blasdel notes at the Petroleum Institute in Fort Worth that the Navy will soon purchase helium from Amarillo gas fields. A Navy lieutenant-commander said Amarillo gas averages about 0.75 percent helium and improving methods will lower costs to justify extraction locally. Man shoots wife then kills self in hotel

Charles Fulbot, 48, of Dodsonville near Wellington, shot and fatally wounded Mrs. W. D. Ellis in a hotel at 6 pm before turning the shotgun on himself. Mrs. Ellis expected to die. Fulbot, said to be insane and recently in an asylum, had entered the hotel while his wife spoke with Mrs. Ellis. Funeral plans have not been set.

Twin-Six Company Gets Oil Discovery in Hutchinson County

Oil was found in the Twin-Six Oil company's well in section 6 block Y Hutchinson county yesterday morning. The well yielded more than ten barrels per hour at a depth of 2950 feet and was shut down to secure drilling lines before deeper testing. Local businessmen own the well and drilling will resume once lines are in place. Officials foresee a major local producer and note nearby wells approaching the pay sand in the Panhandle field with developments expected in a few weeks.

Poultry Judging Honors Awarded at Tri-State Show

Dr. A K Cutting of Amarillo won the largest display in the Mediterranean class and overall show at the Tri-State Poultry Association event in the Municipal auditorium.
