Pilot Tommy Hecklin of Edinburg leapt from a burning crop-dusting plane at McAllen Texas after its low flight endangered his parachute. He landed in a plowed field as the craft struck a power line and crashed into a citrus orchard. He suffered a fractured rib and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Amarillo weatherman H C Winburn says a cold wave failed to arrive as a low pressure area in Wyoming drew the frontal system east of the Panhandle. Winds veered from the south, warm temperatures expected by Saturday around 67, a morning low near 38, with no moisture until next Tuesday or Wednesday and highs 2 to 3 degrees above normal in the interim.
