The Social Welfare Association of Amarillo convened this afternoon in the Potter County court room to hear annual reports and elect three members to the executive board. Bishop BE. C. Seaman, president, presided over the session.
Judge Patrick T. Stone granted a motion to dismiss anti-trust charges against an individual defendant and ruled the government could have a jury decide the sale of 16 major Midwest oil companies and 37 executives.
Lincoln officers arrested Sam Rivette, a Texas desperado who escaped the Nebraska penitentiary through a drilled hole in the cell block roof. The capture occurred in a downtown rooming house about six hours after the escape reported shortly after 3 A M.
In Philadelphia two gunmen attempted a theft at a tire shop and fled when the manager Howard Albert called in a workman repairing the burglar alarm. The incident involved $750 taken and a quick escape interrupted by the on site repair.
The Burlington Veterans Association and Ladies Auxiliary announce a banquet Saturday night at 7 90 o'clock in the Herring Hotel. J R Gibbon freight agent for the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad serves as president.

DETROIT December 9 An automobile ploughed through a crowd of about 100 people waiting for a street car last night killing one and injuring at least 16. William Markhin 30 Ford foreman driving the car was arrested and Dearborn police planned to seek a warrant for negligent homicide. A physician and two policemen said Marklein had been drinking.
The Amarillo Philharmonic postpones its first concert from Friday to January after soprano Esther Hart of the Chicago Civic Opera Company became unavailable. A radio broadcast interference caused the date shift. Hart will perform later with the orchestra in a tentatively set January show. Season tickets remain on sale at one dollar.

United Press reports a fierce cold wave grips the nation with subzero readings in seven states and snow across the north and central regions. California and several western states escape the cold while Florida warms slightly. Forecaster Donnell warns of a new plunge as deaths from the cold exceed fifty since Monday.
Rome reports a Fascist grand council meeting slated for Saturday could reveal Italy plans to renounce membership in the League of Nations. Diplomats and Italian officials were surprised by the convocation amid speculation of the government’s motive.

Snyder December 9 111 Herefords from the Winston Brothers herd were to be sold today after binders arrived. The lot included 87 cows and 24 bulls with Earl Gartin as auctioneer assisted by Frank Farley R O Peterson R J Kinzer and Frazier Biggs. Charley Winston of Dallas served as clerk.
Pennsylvania orders 2000 highway billboards to promote free pneumonia serum. Dr Edith MacBride-Dexter states the health department will place signs along all highways as a cold spell raises risk. The serum, funded by 60000 federal grant, will be available December 15 through private physicians.
Gladewater police investigated the death of Horace G. Corbin a 42 year old former Dallas attorney struck by a Texas and Pacific passenger train near his hotel. C D Reno a taxi driver who witnessed the incident said Corbin was running then paused in front of the train as it slowed for a stop and his body was dragged a block before the train passed over it. Both legs were severed.
In a New York court Mrs. Marion Allgey er and millionaire H E Spaulding faced off over a sensational marital mix up. Each claimed the other had prior marriage vows, fueling a high profile bid to settle the dispute.
The House Labor Committee rewrote the Senate approved wages and hours bill to create a governing committee akin to NRA code authorities. The change was learned by United Press today as part of the bill’s progression in Washington.
