Pearl Harbor Day Rites Raise 150000 In Bonnage Bond Sale

Inclement weather drew a small crowd to the downtown Pearl Harbor Day ceremony in Amarillo as a signed souvenir bond sold for 150,725 dollars to fund war effort. The city bid 100,000 dollars for a dual memento signed by Texas Rangerettes WAACs. Mayor Jenkins praised the women and announced the band will hang in City Hall. E T Burk bought 12,000 worth of War Bonds, aiming for 50,000 more in memory. Kiwanis clubs, firefighters retirement fund contributed 15,950 and 10,000 respectively. Naples Harbor Raid by U S Bombers Lights Up Night Sky

United States Army heavy bombers based in North Africa rain more than 100000 pounds of bombs on the Naples harbor area. They hit Italian battleships cruisers and destroyers with direct strikes and near misses and left columns of smoke from shattered power houses and dumps. The raid, led by Maj Chris Rueter Capt Thomas Omohundro and Lieut William Sutton, showcased pinpoint bombing from several miles up.

Allies Hit Europe Round the Clock Night Bombardment

RAF and US air forces waged a major night and day campaign over occupied Europe. RAF Lancaster, Stirling, Halifax and Wellington bombers struck Karlsruhe and Eindhoven while American Liberators hit Abbeville and Lille.
