Newsboy Hit and Driver Charged in Amarillo Incident

An Amarillo newsboy named Damon Nutt aged 15 was struck by a car in a parkway near Eighteenth and Hughes around 5 40 am. The driver, Richard McMillan known as Dick Morton 33, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and paid a 50 dollar fine plus a 25 cent fee. Nutt and companion Dan Neely 15 were delivering papers when the crash occurred.

Northcutt to Temporarily Head Potter County Judge Post

Northcutt was elected this morning by the Potter County Bar Association to serve during Judge W. E. Gee's absence after a leg injury. Jordan will be county judge, with Northcutt resigning to qualify for the appointment. Gee broke a leg Sunday and will be out of office, as Amarillo attorney Jordan with 15 years in practice begins temporary duties.

Whiskey burglary hits LeSage warehouse theft investigated

Police pursue leads in a Sunday night burglary at the LeSage Company warehouse 118 North Taylor. About 233 cases of whiskey valued at 15727.75 were moved through a hole in the partition from Sunshine Biscuit Inc. The Sun shine truck was later found abandoned at Third and Fillmore. Loss includes cash and a music machine theft at a cafe and other items.

County road costs stay competitive with contracting

County engineer Frank Harrison told commissioners that November operation costs put caliche on roads at about 1.30 per cubic yard, about one third of contracting. He said topping parking lots runs 2.75 per cubic yard and that current methods will remain economical for another year before contracting becomes better. He noted the county nears road saturation with roughly 8 to 10 miles to pave next year and that most future work will be maintenance.
