Explosion derailed and burned 37 freight cars on an emergency track at Tolar New Mexico. One death, Jesse Brown, occurred as crews fought fires and repaired lines. Wreckage blocked the Santa Fe main line. five hundred feet of track destroyed. four communication lines wrecked.
Advanced units inside Germany report the bombardment and ground assault on Barmen and Koslar as Tiger tanks advance and air support and artillery coordinate. Colonel Collier and Major Power direct crews from a basement command post while infantry clear German dugouts and basements.
About 12 percent of all Army casualties since the war began occurred in one recent month. The Army lists 461,058 casualties through Nov. 15, a rise of 58,984 since Oct. 14. The period spans late September to mid October as American ground forces surged in western Europe and Africa, Italy and the Pacific, with air activity expanding.

A mysterious blast rocked a wash house in Amarillo when a gas line, turned off minutes earlier by Mrs. Jones, reignited and caused a tank to explode. Water sprayed everywhere and froze as the blast occurred about ten minutes after the gas was shut off.

A Transcontinental and Western Airlines passenger plane crashed in heavy fog near Burbank early today killing seven people and injuring 16. Among the dead was San Diego City Manager Walter Cooper and pilot and co pilot were killed. Mayor Harley Knox of San Diego was severely injured. The plane departed San Francisco at 12 48 AM and was due in at Lockheed Air Terminal at 2 30 AM.
Chou En-Lai, a senior Chinese government figure, departed Chungking for Yenan amid reports of new proposals from Chiang Kai-shek to settle the communist question.
