Seaman Bennie Darrell Marshall serves aboard the USS Missouri during the formal Japanese surrender. He is the son of Mrs Nuna Marshall of Lincoln and completed training in San Diego in November 1944 in a range finder unit on the battleship.

Amarillo Country Club Sets Winter Social and Golf Schedule
The Amarillo Country Club opens its winter social slate with a Labor Day tea dance from 5 to 8 pm Monday, followed by a buffet for members and guests. Friday nights are family nights with 25 prize games and contests. The Dutch Dinner Team matches run Sept 13 and 15, with mixed bridge at 8:30 pm. The women’s tournament starts with the ringer on Sept 13 and medal play on Sept 19. Entries for the city championship qualify Sept 13 to Sept 15. On Sept 13 women golfers play nine blind holes. Sept 20 features the Tombstone tournament, ending with the White Elephant medal play on Sept 27.
