MERNBERG Aug 29 The international tribunal will announce the verdict on 22 Nazi leaders held as war criminals since last November. The trial is expected to recess late Saturday as the tribunal prepares the decision.
The Colonial Office reported that 18 Stern Gang members convicted of bomb attacks on the Haifa Railroad yards in Palestine had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment. Lt. Gen. Sir Evelyn Barker ordered the commutation after a final review of the military court sentence, amid tense reactions in Palestine.
Adolph Busch II, 55, president of Anheuser-Busch Inc., a leading brewing firm, died today in St. Louis. The longtime industry figure headed the company known for its historic beer brands.

Sen. Warren Magnuson said the United States will ask the United Nations in September to grant it sole trusteeship of the Japanese mandated islands and Pacific bases including the Gilberts Marshals Carolines Guam Truk Manus and other smaller islands with air strips. Col James A Kilian former commander of the U S Army replacement depot at Lichfield Eng was found guilty of permitting cruel punishment of American prisoner guards struck with fists and kicked. He was fined 500 and reprimanded the verdict the heaviest of four officers convicted in the Lichfield trials as nine enlisted men have been convicted and a fifth officer on trial. Kilian was acquitted of wider culpability while prosecutors urged against crucifixion of the former veteran of two world wars.
The Dallas Morning News reports that Beauford Jester’s camp and Democratic leaders reached an accord aimed at harmony at the Sept. 10 San Antonio state convention. Key points include Seay and Kittrell not seeking reelection and Elmer Lincoln appointed to chair a subcommittee on temporary organization.

The victims of a plane crash 10 miles southwest of Higgins were identified as Loren Conrad Sr. and his daughter in law Doris Conrad Jr. The BT-13 plane crashed in mud after a forced landing in murky weather. Identification came by telephone with Sheriff Cloyd in Canadian. The Conrads were en route to Wichita after refueling at English Field.

The storm, which began Tuesday afternoon, brought 2.39 inches total and lifted rancher optimism as wheat pasture improves and row crops recover from early damage.
