Canebrake Rifle Guards Silk Relic Restored to Owner
A silk sleeve with 105 names of Captain Clarke's Canebrake Rifle Guards was framed after 74 years in an envelope. It belonged to R I Graves of 3910 Harrison Street, whose father Dr W W Graves served with the Confederate navy and fought at Mobile. The relic ties to Uniontown origin on April 25, 1861 and to wartime fundraising by Graves’ mother and others.

The Globe reports Patrol Officer Jack Peterson of Wickenburg Arizona boasted no speeder could outrun him. George Holmes in a 110 mph Auburn Speedster outran Peterson, who then tried to catch up by radio but failed. Holmes paid $100 for reckless driving, claiming he was only fast, not reckless. The piece also notes Auburn cars for sale and a brief digression on coffee ingredients and Omar Khayyam’s tomb canopy.
