Paper Sack Bandit Solved by Amarillo Officers
The so called paper sack bandit, linked to a May hold up at Cretney Drug, was identified by Amarillo officers and Oklahoma authorities as Sidney Mendel Amarillo and M B Grove of Tulsa. The suspect, who used a paper sack to conceal a gun during the robbery, received two life sentences in Oklahoma after confessing to the Amarillo job. His wife and child waited in a car nearby during the crime.

Two Accused of Robbing Courts

Mrs Hedgecoke Dies at 56 in Amarillo Home
Mrs. Mattie Hedgecoke died at 1 30 PM at 1023 Travis Street after a period of failing health. A Panhandle native and prominent local businesswoman, she leaves a son James A Hedgecoke and nine grandchildren among five daughters and a large family. The body is in state at N S Griggs and Sons Chapel with funeral arrangements pending.

City Budget Increases Planned For Next Fiscal Year
The tentative budget for the city’s first fiscal year from Oct 1 shows an increase of about 5 000 to 7 000 over the last approved budget ending April 15. City Auditor J M Barker prepared it after talks with City Commissioners Bob Epperson Oscar Hargett and acting city manager Perry Burks. Auto License Examiners Go to School in Austin
Panhandle examiners will not issue licenses this week as they train in Austin on procedures to be used after Oct 1 under the new licensing law. Renewals for old licenses will pass through the Austin office after Oct 1. Current licenses 1 to 450000 renew Oct 1 and expire Dec 31, while higher numbers renew later.
