Eric Palmer Jr a Brooklyn amateur radio operator said he received a message from a station claiming to be missing Greater Rockford The message copied by Palmer said they were about fifty miles north of Newfoundland with dwindling food and using a wind generator for power The message mentioned CIDJ Chivago and asked for help Palmer logged the contact at 12 15 am EST on 42 45 meters
Wireless message signed The Rockford Flyers claimed the Rockford to Sweden aircraft was down near New Foundland with flyers Bert Hassell and Parker Cramer safe. Experts soon questioned the authenticity as amateurs reported different details from Chicago and Toledo, casting doubt on the "rockford flyers" transmission.
