Chicago August 23 The possibility that charges filed by Miss Eugenia Rose a 28 year old nurse against Cecil Smith captain of the all star western polo team may be dropped grew today She had not met with state attorneys to arrange a hearing and the case could be closed if the hearing is not held before Friday The events occurred last Friday night.

Voters urged to back state emergency relief bond issue

Amarillo city commission unanimously urged residents to vote Saturday for the constitutional amendment authorizing a 20 million dollar emergency relief bond plan to fund aid for destitute unemployed, backed by federal assistance and state action. The United States showed a favorable trade balance of 2,000,000 in July with exports at 145,000,000 and imports at 143,000,000. June had a small unfavorable balance. July foreign trade activity rose, exports up 21 percent and imports up 17 percent from June.

Texans Day At Fair Showcases Lone Star Exhibit

Deny Danciger Ruling Appeal Denied Oil Firm

Attorney General James V. Allred announced the U S Supreme Court denied the Danciger Oil and Refining Company request for relief from Texas proration actions. The suit challenged prorated production limits and sought a temporary stay to halt state injunctions pending final court resolution. Sleeping Sickness Death Toll To 19

In St Louis the sleeping sickness death toll rose to 19 as four more deaths occurred in 24 hours. A government expert arrived from Washington to study insect spread while cases increased in St Louis County and surrounding towns. Separate reports from Oklahoma and Kansas noted new cases in Cardin near the Oklahoma Kansas line and in Wichita and Kansas City with encephalitis diagnoses.

Army Officers Trade Wives Legally for Love

Leavenworth Kansas August 22 Two army officers legally swapped wives in a friendly arrangement. Capt William Bradford and Major Stuart MacDonald arranged consent with joint attorney and moved to Bentonville Arkansas to exploit a 90 day divorce law. After decrees were granted the couples married each other. Their 10 year old daughter remained with Bradford.
