In Olympia Washington on August 22 UP reports Dr W Beery aged 50 and five times married was charged with kidnaping and pleas. Irving Baker, former toast guard officer, is accused over attentions to the doctor’s young wife, a University of Washington co ed. Lawrence M Wilson, who attended Baker at a hospital, says Baker suffered severe lacerations but no permanent injury.
Paris, Aug. 22. Cabinet ministers Frossard and Barvadier resign after clashing with Premier Edouard Daladier over a six point recovery program and his handling of Senegalese troop use in Marseilles. Both ministers belong to the Socialist Republic party faction.
A Columbia University faculty member warned that communists already wield influence in key plants and industries, able to sabotage vital processing if the United States enters war with the Soviet Union, as noted by Matthews and Henderson.
Matthews accused Communists of trying to infiltrate submarine plants in Connecticut and to undermine the shipping industry on the West Coast. He alleged they aimed to bore into the armed forces and incite military insurrection if the nation faced war with the Soviet Union.
