Helium Replaces Hydrogen for Airship Safety and Costs

The passage notes that airships must be reinflated with new hydrogen eight to ten times yearly, as air leaks reduce lift. It argues replacing hydrogen with purified helium, costing 50 cents to $1.50 per thousand cubic feet, reduces annual volume needs to 1%–2% and adds safety from fire and explosion despite higher initial cost.
