A gang of at least a dozen, armed with sub machine guns, held up an armored truck outside Rebel Company plant in Brooklyn Bay 19th Street. They escaped in two cars with about $427000, leaving a $20000 bag, after forcing driver Joseph Allen and guard John Wilson from the truck.

In Childress Texas Bob Ehringer was shot by night policeman Sid Partain after pulling a pistol as officers questioned him. Ehringer, about 30, identified by Sam Copeland of a local filling station as the man who robbed him of $18, died in hospital.
