John B Allen of 1407 Hayden Street is at liberty on 1500 bond after being charged with assault with intent to murder. Brady's condition remains not critical and has shown little change.

Four Die in Powder Company Explosion at Dupont Plant

Four men were killed when an explosion wrecked a cartridge filling building at the Dupont Company's repanio dynamite plant in Gibbs town New Jersey. The blast shook nearby buildings and shattered windows as far as five miles away.

U S Ready to Provide Helium for National Defense

Secretary Ickes announced the United States is prepared to supply all helium gas needed for national defense from the government owned Amarillo Texas plant. He noted the plant has produced 100,000,000 cubic feet to date and stands ready to meet demands from the army or navy in the defense program. The gas is non-explosive and used for airship inflation.

An escaped German officer who spoke fluent English fled a northern Ontario internment camp. Authorities suspect fifth columnists aided the breakout, including a woman. The man, held since deportation from England, tunneled under a guard room using timber pilfered from barracks construction.

Burns injure attendant at Lewis Island gas mart

Don Curl, attendant at the Lewis Island gas mart on Sixth and Georgia, was burned on the face when waste in an electric oil drainer exploded early today. The blast tore a metal band from the waste tank and wrapped it around Curl. San Jacinto firefighters nearby extinguished the fire with little damage reported.
