Police investigated an attempted burglary at Reitman Lumber and Hardware, 1400 North East Eighth. Front door glass was broken but no entry found, and detectives think the burglars may have been frightened away.
Dr. R P Parcells announced the school board rejected lowering the assessment basis from 80 to 70 percent amid a pending tax rate plan. George Waddill noted the board would keep 80 percent, citing clerical burdens and unchanged overall tax take. Logan led the taxpayers’ delegation.
Artha Mae Blake is charged with assault with intent to murder after a shooting that wounded Herbert Stanley at Northwest Texas Hospital. Stanley, a resident of Mayfair Hotel, suffered a chest wound and broken arm with non life threatening condition. Blake gave West Third address and claimed an argument led to the incident.
