Austin reports Blue Ranger headquarters in conference with Thomas Barton to send rangers to investigate the fatal shooting of Mel J. Dwight near Childress. Dwight was found shot in his residence Sunday and died yesterday. the slayer is at large. No request for assistance from Childress had been received.
Mel J. Dwight, a well known police officer, was found dead in his garage with a bullet wound. State Rangers may be called for Saturday’s runoff Democratic primary elections as investigators from surrounding counties assist. Funeral services are at 4 o clock this afternoon at First Baptist Church, with burial in Childress. A grand jury is expected to convene for special hearings in the case.
