Travel Air Service of Wichita announced plans to operate planes between Los Angeles and Chicago via Wichita Tulsa Oklahoma City Amarillo and Albuquerque. The new route joins two others Denver to New Orleans and Wichita to El Paso. Service should begin within two months, stated J F Byrnes president of the company.
Congressman Marvin Jones spoke at a Rotary club luncheon about the U.S. Constitution. He argued progress is spiritual, cited the document’s historical adoption, and noted limited amendments except on slavery, praising the framers’ wisdom.
Kurt Odenheimer, a St Louis bond salesman, began swimming the Mississippi from St Louis to New Orleans at 8 a m. He paddled into Wilson Arkansas after an all day swim from Osceola and expected to reach Memphis between 6 and 7 p m.
The body of Elbert H. Gary was interred at the Gary mausoleum in Wheaton after brief burial services attended by family and close associates. He rests beside his first wife Julia E. Graves of Aurora, who died 25 years ago. The copy ends noting a coffee shop in Amarillo hotel renowned for food.
Mrs. Caroline Catro and 15 year old Bessie Richardson were brought back to Amarillo by Martin Richardson after a Denver report of their release. Officers kept them in custody as they review the kidnapping charge. Catro says the girl went willingly. the mother blames Catro.
In Cologne on August 18 Lieutenant Otto Koennecke postponed his planned flight to the United States after a weather conference with experts. The decision halted the attempted hop scheduled for tomorrow.
Geologist L. S. Ashley disappeared after entering Nick-a-jack cave at Shield Mound Tennessee on Monday. Friends traced chalk marks four miles into the cavern then found an abrupt end near a sharp decline to an underground stream raising fears he fell and was swept away.
Mrs. Mary Mellroy a Texas pioneer and mother of twelve died unexpectedly at 7:30 AM in Lubbock while visiting relatives. Surviving children include S D Mellroy and W W Mellroy of Amarillo and eight other sons, with funeral to be held Friday at the Mellroy home in Tolar Texas after services near Comanche.
In Flint Michigan Aug 18 Miss Mildred Doran the Dole air race entrant remains missing as hours pass with no word. Relatives led by her brother William Jr keep watch at a local newspaper office while Mildred's sister Helen stays hopeful and the father remains at Otisville awaiting news.
Henry Wells from Oklahoma was charged in Independence Kansas with the robbery of Wayside State Bank at Wayside Tuesday. Identified by Clyde Snapp assistant cashier who was locked in the vault Wells was arrested near Okeha Oklahoma and brought to the Montgomery county jail. He previously served time in the Oklahoma penitentiary and was acquitted in a Chautauqua bank robbery case.
Honolulu reports the search widens as 42 Navy vessels are ordered to scour the Pacific for the missing Dole flight trio. Captain Erwin plans a two stop hop from Oakland toward Honolulu to aid the hunt while pilots Jensen Schuster and Goebel pursue leads.
C. M. Shell, 38, a Santa Fe switchman at the South Amarillo freight yard, fell between rails when he stumbled. Two freight cars passed over him, crushing his right leg, which was amputated below the knee. He was hospitalized and listed resting well at noon.
Two young men in a stolen Buick fuelled and fled after filling gas without paying. Motorcycle Officer Richardson chased them through Amarillo roads to a wreck near a barbed wire fence. They escaped on foot, later taking a Studebaker stolen in Mangum Oklahoma, now under federal transport across state lines.
