Ray Shifflet, a 23 year aviator with about 15 000 flight hours, piloted a tri motor Stinson Detroiter over Palo Duro Canyon with 60+ passengers aboard. He likened the feat to Douglas Corrigan’s Atlantic crossing and urged residents to view the canyon from the air.

Ledge-Sitter Charged After Jump Halted

Noreen Leonard, 24, was charged with disturbing the peace after she sat on a tenth floor hotel ledge for over an hour and threatened to jump. A crowd of about two thousand gathered as she alternated between the ledge and a chair. Fire officials and a local businessman intervened, grabbing her from the ledge.

Everett B Earl Arrest Announced in Oklahoma

The sheriff's office reports the arrest of Everett B. Earl in Muskogee Oklahoma on charges of passing a forged instrument. A felony accusation was filed in Justice of the Peace H W Dukes court and Earl may be returned to Amarillo after a similar Oklahoma case. He allegedly passed a $75 check forged on North American Accident Insurance of Chicago at the Amarillo Building jewelry store.

Fire Threat Hits Army Ammunition Depot During Reserve Fire

A large fire threatened the army ammunition depot in the reservation’s northwest corner. Hundreds of national guardsmen and regular soldiers mobilized to contain the blaze and protect $6,000,000 worth of ammunition as a southeast wind stoked destruction before turning.
