Florence relief efforts begin as Allied Military Government moves to feed clSe starving residents. Herbert Brownell Jr the Republican national chairman said in Boston that party organizations in 26 states with Republican governors would back the Dewey Bricker ticket and secure the electoral votes needed. Amarillo and Potter County reach an agreement in which the city provides $4,500 worth of free water and library use to the county. A massive blaze at Palisades Amusement Park near Fort Lee, New Jersey, left most of the park a ruin and caused injuries to 150 or more as about 25 000 spectators watched. Firemen from 14 towns fought the flames, with damage estimated at 1.5 million dollars and the park closed for the season.
