Congressman Marvin Jones and Amarillo officials press a giant mooring mast for the city. Potter county commissioners' court in regular session will likely set the new tax rate this afternoon. The year end financial report to July 31 is not fully complete though authorities expect it within a few days. Auditor H. G. Hamrick noted the report is delayed due to illness in his family and that of county treasurer J. L. Shea. officials provided no hint on the rate.
The storm sweeping Ontario over the weekend brought ruined crops and damaged structures. Hail near Agincourt destroyed about half of the oats crop, damaged corn, and nearly wiped out apples and garden crops. Lightning caused fires in several buildings.
The State Tax Board meets in Austin to set the ad valorem tax rate for the biennium. Officials expect a rate between 27 and 30 cents with 35 cents for school tax and seven cents for Confederate pensions, amid lower overall expenditures and constitutional limits.
