Potter County Budget Exhibit Plans Public Hearing
The Potter County budget for the next fiscal year is on exhibit in County Clerk Hubert Cole’s office until a public hearing on Aug. 30. The plan calls for about $700,000 in expenditures, about $15,000 more than the prior year, with valuation up by roughly $500,000 due to improvements. A tentative tax rate of 56 cents per $100 valuation is set, a 3 cent reduction, and ad valorem tax valuation is estimated at $38,800.

Army Bomber Crashes Near Wendover Damages Rail Line
An army bomber crash seven miles east of Wendover Utah tore up Western Pacific tracks and derailed a westbound freight train. One airman died in Wendover Air Base Hospital. Ten others injured, some critically. Train crew unharmed. cars piled up causing about 100000 dollars in damage. Derailment also felled telephone wires.

First reports from the scene could not confirm if the bomber struck the freight or only damaged tracks during a forced landing. Wreckage lay along the right of way and the Transcontinental Highway near Bonneville salt flats, a site famous for speed records. The diesel freight engine piled up as it left the rails.
