Amarillo to raise teacher pay may lift taxes
Amarillo School Board tentatively approved a 3.2 million dollar budget for public schools plus 321,340 for Amarillo College. The board will hold public hearings on Aug 20. Teachers and staff likely receive about a 6 percent raise, costing roughly 120,850 next year, with fireproofing costing 24,000. Tax impact may be a 3 cent net increase per 100 valuation if funds are shifted between sinking and maintenance. Twenty four new teachers were approved, area resignations accepted, and bids authorized for instruments, desks, seating, and shop equipment. The Globe News will broadcast Sandie football next fall.
