Washington officials foresee roads and airports as main victims of a 700 million dollar cut in the public works program for the current fiscal year. Reconversion Director John R. Steelman orders agencies to halt new contracts from now until Oct. 1, with some projects allowed to continue. The cut targets 1.6 billion down to 900 million, with roads administration earmarked 309 million and airports 50 million, while matches with state funds could raise the impact to about a billion.
