In 1914 a Biscoe merchant refused 39 cent cotton bids, holding out for 40 cents. He died after 27 years of stalemate. This week his heirs sold five bales of remaining cotton for 1545 cents a pound.
The Globe seeks reader columns of 900 to 1 200 words for a two week run beginning next Monday with payment of 10 dollars per printed column. A separate contest will pick one writer to substitute for Old Tack for a week beginning Aug 25, with 100 dollars for five columns.

Arthur Gober aged 43, former Amarillo resident and brother of J L Fay Gober, died last night in a Kerrville sanitarium after tuberculosis. Surviving widow and a stepdaughter, and a brother Ark Gober a contractor in Amarillo. Funeral services set for 10:30 Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Tulla with interment in the family plot.
The American Federation of Labor executive council warned the cost of living has risen to a dangerous degree and urged Congress to act on the president’s price control recommendations while cautioning against giving excessive discretionary power. It said wage increases need not raise aggregate labor costs due to higher living costs profits and productivity.

Robert Brown Wallace 23 son of Vice President Henry A Wallace reported for army duty as a selectee.
