Eight Die As Chicago and Southern Airliner Crashes

Eight aboard a Chicago and Southern airliner were killed when the plane crashed near Lambert-St. Louis airport. The wreckage spread over a plowed field. searchers located the victims hours after the crash. An eye witness said the plane banked sharply and appeared to head back toward the airport before vanishing from view.

Towns wins Olympic 110 meter hurdles at Berlin

Forrest Towns of Augusta Georgia captured the Olympic 110 meter hurdles title at the Berlin stadium. Frederick Pollard of California advanced to the hurdles final behind Towns while Staley and Thornton failed to make the next round. The day also saw Archie Williams Jimmy Lavalle and Harold Smallwood progress in the 400 meter event with Lavalle posting 47.4 seconds in his heat and Smallwood pacing the field before easing up.

Borger Youth Faces Charge In Ft Worth Traffic Death

Aron Cook 17 of Borger was charged with failure to render aid after his truck struck 11 year old Mary Lou Atkins and fatally injuring her on North Street. Edward Eckert 15, also of Borger, was in the truck and released after giving a statement. Both youths said they did not see the girl in time to stop as they had come to Borger for watermelons and were en route to Montague County when the accident occurred.
