Father Draft Policy Pending Amid War Manpower Calls

Officials from two local Selective Service boards said any changes to father drafts after October 1 depend on the War Department manpower call. They have not received official notices and will not act until instructions are issued. A heavy October call could require drafting fathers, but precautions include prioritizing those with fewer dependents. Many fathers volunteer for Seabees and Army Engineers, helping reduce monthly quotas.

Mrs. J. J. Vance Dies in Amarillo Home

Annie C. Vance, 54, wife of Jesse J. Vance, died early this morning at the family residence 2900 Harrison Street. A Panhandle settler, she had lived in Amarillo about a year and belonged to the Bonita Chapter of the Eastern Star. The body lies in state at Blackburn- Shaw Funeral Home as funeral plans are pending.

Berlin Claims Sinking 3 British Speedboats

Berlin radio reported German patrol boats sunk three British speedboats off the Dutch island of Terschelling this morning. Another small British vessel was sunk. all Nazi craft returned safely. No British confirmation was reported.

George P. Morton, 79, died in a local hospital about 10:30 this morning. He had lived in Amarillo for 11 years. the family home is 1002 Van Buren Street. Infant son of Mr and Mrs Sharp of Wildorado dies

Graveside services were to be held at 3 this afternoon for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Sharp of Wildorado. The child died yesterday in a local hospital. Survivors include sister Diana Jean Sharp and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Sharp and Mrs. Leona Atkins of Wildorado. Funeral arrangements were handled by Blackburn Funeral Home.
