Giant B-19 Bomber Faces Runway Cracks Delay

Santa Monica reports the giant Douglas B-19 may not take off for a test flight before July due to its 82 ton weight. A concrete runway is needed, with 4,000 feet length and 200 feet width, plus 48 days to pour and 30 days to cure. The craft cracked the asphalt, requiring 15 tons of paving material after moving 175 feet. Douglas officials declined to comment.
