Deaths blamed on giant plane crash near Langley Field
Lieutenant Commander Noel Davis and Lieutenant S H Wooster died when their enormous biplane the American Legion failed to cross Langley marsh Virginia. A Hampton Roads naval board ruled the deaths were caused by the impact of the crash and the wreck lay in mud and water. Earlier records cited drowning after initial reports said the men were submerged in shallow water.

Two Aviators Die in Crash Near Langley Field
Davis and Wooster were killed when a bomber crashed, smothering the plane’s fuel tanks. Their bodies were to be sent from Portsmouth Virginia by train for funeral services in Pensacola Florida and Arlington Virginia or New Britain Connecticut. The flight commander’s widow, 36, joined by their young son, faced the tragedy at Langley field. Wooster, 82, may be buried in Arlington or New Britain.
