State to seek change of venue in Hamlin trial
The state will seek a change of venue for the second trial of George Hamlin, ex-Californian, charged with the hammer-slaying of his wife Trene last January 4. In 47th District Court Monday morning District Attorney Grady Hazlewood said the next trial site will be announced then. The 47th District covers Potter, Armstrong and Randall counties. The first trial ended in a deadlock after five weeks and two days, and Hazlewood said a venue move is to avoid impossible jury service in Potter County. Defense attorney E T Miller did not commit on opposing the move. Major E A Simpson will appear as special prosecutor. The state had asked the death penalty at the first trial.
