Embezzler Ann Callahan Sentenced After $149000 Spree
In Trenton New Jersey on April 23 federal judge Phillip Forman sentenced 52 year old Miss Ann T Callahan to five years in Alderden West Virginia penitentiary for embezzling more than $149000 from her bank while serving as general ledger bookkeeper. The spree spanned January 1941 to February 1945 and included $28800 spent on luxury items for a friend and $8000 in tips to purchase waiters. The judge condemned the wasteful spending and noted Callahan donated only $2 to charity during the period.
