Cheap Clothing Gets Go-Ahead
Washington reports a new three way program to boost inexpensive clothing output. The Civilian Production Administration CPA freezes spindles on over 20 percent of cotton yarn starting May 1 and imposes a yarn set aside to curb diversion to priority users. A five percent price ceiling rise for cotton yarn aids low and moderately priced garments. The move revives wartime controls to counter a 13 percent fall in yarn output and covers fabric and end products from yarn to garments stressing shirts shorts dresses and workwear and a wide range of cotton materials and related goods.
