Oil Compact Is Approved In Texas Senate

The Texas Senate approved extending Texas participation in the oil states compact to Sept 1, 1939. The current pact expires Sept 1, 1937. An amendment by Sen. Weaver Moore to allow withdrawal by the governor was tabled 12 to 11. The House did not override Gov. Allred's veto on the Harris County tax remission bill. vote 68 to 66.

Amarillo Chamber Names Committee Heads at Meeting

Amarillo Chamber of Commerce directors named committee chairs last night. Tom Cotten will chair the finance committee before leaving for the national rivers and harbors congress in Washington. Other chairs include John L. McCarty agriculture R. E. Wertz industrial Wade Brymer highways Ed Hardin trade extension and Jay Taylor as Amarillo director going to the West Texas Chamber convention in Brownwood May 10 12. Walter Barlow presided at the session in the Amarillo Hotel with a large business turnout.

Anniversary Dinner Marks Missionaries Voyage

A Friday anniversary dinner commemorates the 100th anniversary of Methodist missionaries to the Orient. Judge Hall Improving Says Hospital Reports

Judge R Walker Hall, chief justice of the Court of Civil Appeals, was described as slightly better today by St. Anthony's Hospital after a serious illness. He is noted as the first U.S. chief executive to ride to his inauguration by automobile in 1900 and as Harding's first air greeting to the Cuban president in 1921.

A trash fire late this morning set two frame garages on North Georgia Street ablaze. Firemen responded at 11:30 to Chester Blackwell's home at 207 North Georgia Street as flames spread to 205 North Georgia Street. Assistant fire chief Dewey Morris said the loss is not yet estimated.
