Mrs Etta Butts 39 drowned her three children Max 9 Ralph 7 and Etta Jane 4 in a cistern at their Grand Rapids home then leaped in herself. Husband Carl and son Jack rushed to the well and saved her but the children could not be saved. Doctors at St Marys Hospital called her insane and could not explain the outburst.
