William H. Woods, 74, longtime Canyon resident and Randall County Highway Department employee, died at 3:45 AM in a local hospital. Survived by wife, two sons J. W. Woods and F. W. Woods, three daughters Mrs. T. B. Maxwell, Mrs. Ed Mickle, and Mrs. E. F. Newberry, plus sister Miss Margaret Woods and brother J. A. Woods. Body to be cared for at Griggs-Thompson funeral home in Canyon.
Dorothy Anne Adams and G W Reynolds of the Forum Club won over the Philonatheanes Club in Amarillo High School auditorium. A Lions Club silver loving cup was awarded to the winners. The two teams have debated for two years. The annual issue was government monopoly on munitions of war. Forum Club won two of three debates to retain the trophy. Philonatheanes won last year.
A neighbor’s daughter Betty Fleetwood and Mary Hartman were with Henry Hartman when Mary rejected him. Henry drew a pistol and shot Mary, then fired again on the opposite street before fleeing. he was found later in a yard with the gun, talking with authorities about a love affair.

Santa Fe system carloadings for the week ending April 17 were 23,074, up from 19,153 in the same week last year. Connections brought in 6,681, versus 5 or 4? last year. Total cars moved reached 20,755, compared with 24,487 a year ago. Preceding week totals show 28,323 cars. Pupils of Tyler Street Behood present a venued program tonight at Foolo’k in the school auditorium. public invited.

Workers halted interrupted construction on the dam Monday afternoon as an inch of rain drenched the area. Water stood ankle deep in workers' houses while a hail valley lasted about 30 minutes and the rain poured down.
