Texas Draft Call Expands By 1 000 Recruits

A new selective service call will draft about 1,000 more Texans between May 5 and 8. Adjt. Gen. J Watt Page announced Texas will provide 8,600 additional soldiers before July 1, though Potter County’s exact quota was not listed. Texas has now called 23,585 men overall. local boards will receive quotas tomorrow.

Wichita Falls triple murder shock kills three at home

A morning shooting in Wichita Falls left Mrs. Clifford Davis, her father Steve Brawner, and Mrs. Davis's husband dead. Two boys aged 2 and 11 survived unharmed as Nat L. Inge ruled the deaths murder and death by own action. Authorities reported five shots in Brawner and one in Mrs. Davis. Davis died after hospital care. motive undetermined.

Amarillo Girl Scouts held a morning cooking lesson for mothers at Central Presbyterian Church. The first in a series showcased camping and cooking principles for intermediate and senior troop mothers. Camp materials and new 1941 camp uniforms were displayed. The event was led by Mrs. W. B. Gunn with assistants Mrs. Erwin C. Ochsner and Miss Ida Mae McClure.

The New York Stock Exchange paid one figure $48,000 a year and another $16 a week. The army began paying them $21 a month each. William Mc Chesney Martin, 34, resigned as NYSE president when drafted. William Metrinko, 23, left his post as popular page boy as induction followed.
