Roosevelt outlines costs for new work programs total 3.012 billion

QO. C. Applequist was elected commander of John B. Golding Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at a Legion Hall meeting. He succeeds C. J. Boyd. Roy C. Andrews becomes senior vice commander, E. R. Accident Victim Reported Better After Car Crash

Jack Todd, badly injured when his light coupe overturned on West Tenth Avenue near Georgia Street, is reported improving at Northwest Texas Hospital. Attendants say injuries are not as serious as first feared. D. E. Graham, the other occupant, was not seriously injured.

Fingerprints For All Now Available In Amarillo

Amarillo residents of all ages can have fingerprints placed on record for identification at Fifth Avenue and Polk Street near the State Theater. Deputy Sheriff Dick Vaughn and Virgil Beavers will begin Friday at 9 am. The program, national in scope and sponsored by the Amarillo Junior Chamber of Commerce, will not place prints in criminal files and will aid in identification in accidents or similar events.

Breckenridge Sheriff Passes Through Amarillo to Hartley

Breckenridge Sheriff F. L. Freeland passed through Amarillo this morning en route to Hartley to take custody of three men accused of robbing the Hartley post office. The suspects also face charges in Stephens County.

McCracken Improves After Bathtub Scalding Incident

J. H. McCracken, Amarillo resident, remained in serious condition at Northwest Texas Hospital after a Tuesday accident in which he slipped on a bathroom floor and fell into a nearly boiling bath water, striking his head and becoming unconscious before rescuers freed him.

Two Youths Charged in Auto Theft Case

Howard Baugus 16 and J L Taylor 18 were charged in Justice of the Peace W Carder's court with car theft. They were nabbed near the Randall County outskirts after a car stolen from H C Van Dever was recovered. Bond was set at 750 dollars each.

Roy Robinson was sentenced to 30 days in jail and court costs by County Judge J Newt Riggs on a theft charge Wednesday afternoon.

Treasury loosens gold sterilization to spur credit

The treasury briefly abandons sterilization twice to boost credit. Last September it released 300 million dollars from the sterilized gold fund at the Federal Reserve's request to counter deflationary psychology. On February 14 it virtually suspended sterilization, planning to turn up to 100 million dollars in gold into credit channels each quarter by depositing gold certificates with the Fed and expanding the treasury's working balance for WPA and PWA funding as needed.
