Five Young People Die in Blazing Car Crash

Five young people were fatally burned and a sixth seriously injured when their auto collided with a fruit truck near Wise North Carolina on an early April morning. The dead are Woodrow Tucker 22 J T Kimball 24 George Newell 21 Margaret Willis maybe Margar Willis South Jacksonville Florida and Carl Tucker Palmer Springs. Mrs Woodrow Tucker the driver’s wife was rescued with no hope of recovery.

Building for March Higher Permits Hit New Peak

New York April 14 U P March building permits in 215 cities reached the largest total since September 1931. Dun and Bradstreet reported first quarter volume at 184 637 909, up 85.5 percent from 1935 and 73.4 percent above February. The March total was 78 120 344, up 51 5 percent from February and 73.4 percent above March 1935.

Blanton Tries To Do Battle In House Fight

Washington April 4 Rep Thomas Blanton of Texas and Rep Marion Zioncheck of Washington nearly fought in the House after a series of sharp exchanges. Blanton rose from his chair as Zioncheck delivered a personal remark and swung toward the aisle. They were restrained by Whip Patrick Boland and Rep J Duell Snyder.

Allred 10 May Invited to Speak at Amarillo Union Service

Amarillo pastors authorize Tom Cotten to invite Governor James Allred as principal speaker for a May 10 union service at Municipal Auditorium. The address will discuss progress of the past century in Texas religious activity, ahead of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention May 11-13. Dr. R. C. Snodgrass heads the arranging committee. Five Bandits Hijack Amarillo Man on Detour

A N Cornell of 853 Lipscomb Street escaped after five highwaymen halted his car near a detour between Alaneed and Jericho. They robbed his purse of $10 then fired at his car as he fled toward McLean and Wellington. Police and state patrol joined a broad search. three cars and the bandits were not found.

Dunninger Ponders Thurstons Death and Afterlife Claim

The magician Rene Dunninger guards a glass case containing an Egyptian idol imagining a single invisible hand from The Great Thurston might smash it if life after death exists. Thurston, once rival and friend to Dunninger, died in Miami Beach at 66. He had promised to prove life after death if he died first.

Amarillo and West Texas expect generally fair weather tonight and Wednesday with low temperatures around 84 degrees and daytime highs near 85 degrees. New Mexico forecasts fair conditions tonight and Wednesday with cooler readings in the south and east portions. Temperature extremes in Amarillo reached 56 degrees earlier today.

Borah Enters Illinois Vote Against Knox

In Chicago on April 14 two kidnappings disrupted the Illinois primary as voters queued amid heavy security. Ludwig Pryasznski, 30, a Democratic precinct captain, and Paul Witowsky, 60, a retired businessman and Gov. Horner ally, were abducted. Police found 17 marked ballots on Philip Zimmerman, 38, leading to the removal of two election judges.

Dallas businessmen and entertainers visit Amarillo for Texas Centennial

A special train carrying 70 leading Dallas businessmen and 30 musicians arrives in Amarillo at 4 20 tomorrow. The boosters parade the business district ending at the Amarillo Hotel where speakers invite citizens to Dallas for the centennial celebration. At 7 30 the Dallasites host a free public entertainment in Ellwood Park featuring entertainers from Station WFAA.
