Amarillo hosts the first annual Spring Style and Window Show with live models displaying the latest spring merchandise. Merchants shutter windows at noon to redecorate for a 7:30 pm unveiling assisted by Dave Derden’s band in the business district.
The forecast calls for possible rain tonight and cooler conditions Tuesday. Temperature readings today ranged from 45 at 7 a.m. to 80 degrees by early afternoon with a high of around 80 and a low near 45, matching seasonal norms from a year ago.
The case of alleged bribe taking against F A Dale and H H Moore expelled house members was set in district court for April 25. Dale of Bonham and Moore of Cooper were defeated in reelection bids after testimony that optometrist W W Chamberlin gave Dale $1000 in marked bills with Moore’s concurrence to defeat a tax bill.
An Austin dispatch reports the highway commission will deny aid to counties for gravel state highways without a definite plan for eventual hard surfacing. Fayette county received about 50000 dollars for a gravel road from Fayetteville to the Austin county line, with the state reserving no further obligation until hard surfacing is completed.
The Supreme Court sustained Interstate Commerce Commission orders on rail and water cotton rates from Oklahoma via Galveston Texas to New York and New England. The Rock Island and St. Louis-San Francisco railroads appealed the ruling.
A three foot Neosho river rise drives a dozen families from lowland homes near Miami Oklahoma while farmers suffer losses from flood damage. Rain adds little to existing floods as Washita Arkansas rivers rise and forecasters warn of more rain. Fort Smith and Fort Gibson loom as Arkansas river crests reach 24 to 26 feet.
Members of Central Presbyterian church bid farewell to the 1100 Taylor building after seventeen years of worship. Next Sunday services will be held in the new Harrison street church with a sunrise Easter program by the Christian Endeavor. Dr. R. Thomson delivered the opening sermon from sixteen and a half years ago, on the subject For My Sake, as the old building is vacated. The church has 1080 members and a 300000 plant. Dedicatory services are planned the week of May 8 with a Los Angeles layman A C Marts speaking on a 15000000 pension campaign backing pastors' pensions.
Amarillo reports a kangaroo court flogging of storekeeper L A Barnett at 326 East Fourth Street after his arrest on Sunday charges. Prisoners beat him in jail while deputies dispute details, with Barnett alleging denial of bail and family contact and officials urged to investigate and hold those responsible to account.
General Wood’s official car was struck by a stone while on the highway from Baguio to Manila in Pangasinan valley. The windshield smashed but no one was injured and an investigation is under way. Governor General Wood was not in the car.
New York April 11 The Standard Oil Company of New York reduced the tank wagon price of gasoline by one cent per gallon throughout its territory to 19 cents.
The Hoot Owls of the American Business club will be on air tonight from station KGRS in Amarillo. The weekly program features club songs and aims to raise funds for radio receiving sets for orphans and hospitals, with a set already installed at the Children's home and plans for more in Amarillo hospitals.
Mayor Lee Bivins issues a proclamation designating Thursday April 14 1927 as Western League Day in Amarillo to celebrate the city’s entry into the Western Baseball League. He urges citizens to attend the opening game and support the league with cooperation and enthusiasm.
Rangers continued clean up efforts Sunday raiding several road houses mostly outside Borger and found a 500 gallon still Saturday night. Police in Borger remain under ranger supervision after the mayor and ranger coordination, as a special motorcycle unit rounds up unlicensed cars. In town, a “clean up week” was proclaimed to fix insanitary conditions. Legionnaires to discuss Borger situation later tonight as part of ongoing crime probe.
London reports Dr Leonard Williams of the New Health society predicting that current fashion of hair shingling and tight hats will lead to baldness in young women by age 30 or 40. He says tonic treatments will not prevent hair loss.
A 826 East Fourth street merchant says prisoners flogged him in county jail after his 10 p.m. store visit for alleged Sunday closing law violation. Deputies report he objected to cigaret fund, pleaded not guilty, and was jailed without bond as sheriff's officials deny mistreatment claims.
New York April 11 motion for a separate trial for Mrs Ruth Snyder, accused with Henry Judd Gray of murdering her husband Albert Snyder, was made before Supreme Court Justice Scudder. The justice asked Dana Wallace to file briefs as opposition from District Attorney Newcombe and Gray’s attorney was voiced. ruling expected soon.

The consul generals of the United States Great Britain France Japan and Italy delivered identical notes to the Cantonese government detailing three demands after the Nanking riot of March 24. They seek punishment of commanders and troops, a written apology and pledge to refrain from violence, and full reparation for injuries and damages. If not complied with promptly the powers warned of further steps they deemed necessary. The protest was handed to Cantonese representatives at the foreign affairs bureau near the international settlement at 3 pm.
About 160 Cantonese Nationalist agents were reported executed in the Taingtao region by Shantung military authorities. The dispatches noted the killings occurred in the last few days, Taingtao lies on the southern side of the Shantung peninsula.
Physicians from Panhandle points arrive in Amarillo for the Panhandle Medical Association convention starting Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Amarillo hotel. Monday saw a tuberculosys clinic in the County Library basement led by Dr. John W. Potts of Fort Worth, assisted by Miss Jean Campbell of Austin, with about 40 patients examined. Potts will speak Monday night at 8 o'clock at the Methodist church.
The Amarillo Golden Sandstorm crushed Clovis 19 to 2 as pitcher Ross Larsen allowed four hits and one walk. Blades had four singles and a double, Epp Boyles hit a home run, with Amarillo's offense firing on all cylinders en route to a big win before facing Hereford Tuesday at Metropoliton Park.
R M Kelly of East Texas chamber invites Amarillo delegates to the annual Tyler meeting on April 20 and 21. James George of the City Development board says Amarillo will likely be represented. The board also plans a large turnout for the Plainview chamber annual meeting on April 19.
