In Pittsburgh on April 9 the Ku Klux Klan faces a counter suit in federal court over use of its name in Pennsylvania. Five former Klan members seek an injunction and receivership to stop the Klan from operating in the state, while the organization counters for continuation of its activities.
Funeral services for Mrs Alice Landergin Nobles 38 of Grady C Nobles will be at Central Presbyterian church Tuesday at 3 pm with burial at Llano cemetery. The body lies at the family home until 2 pm Tuesday. She died at 8 30 Sunday morning after influenza illness. She was active with the church primary pupils and attended Easter services. Survived by her husband and her father P H Landergin prominent Panhandle cattleman.
The Amarillo Boy Scout committee postpones the weekly leadership training meeting for one week due to Mrs. Grady Nobles death. Stanley Zimmerman planned to speak on taxidermy and Mayor Lee Bivins was to receive the new Boy Scout handbook. the program will be repeated next Monday night.
Mrs Evangeline Lindbergh mother of Col Charles Lindbergh leaves Ford airport at 9 55 am to attend the Ontario Educational Association convention in Toronto where she will become a life member of the organization. She is accompanied by Miss Maud Dawson and pilot Louis G Meister.
Houston April 9. Harvey Richard Deal one year old son of road contractor Cliff E Deal drowned Sunday after falling into a tub of cold water while his mother was momentarily out of the room.
Four state conventions and two primaries will nominate 100 more presidential convention delegates this week. Illinois votes Tuesday with Nebraska in a high profile Lowden Thompson contest. Republican gatherings occur Monday in Rhode Island, Tuesday in Idaho, Wednesday in North Carolina, and Saturday in New Mexico.
Cold weather today checked Easter floods in northern New York Vermont New Hampshire and parts of Ontario and Quebec. High temperatures melted snow and caused ice to move down rivers as heavy weekend rain swelled streams, disrupting rail traffic and communication. Two men died when a wagon was swept from a bridge near St Lambert Quebec and two railway passengers were believed drowned when a train plunged through a bridge at Drummondville.
J D Barnes of Winnipeg Canada attempted a walk between trains in Kansas City on Sunday. At Seventeenth and Main streets a robber pressed a pistol to his ribs and stole 80 dollars before telling him to keep walking. He reported the crime and continued his journey from Union Station.
At Stone Mountain Georgia the huge bas relief of Robert E. Lee was revealed as part of a monumental Confederate memorial. Dignitaries from North and South attended the dedication with leaders from Washington and governors from three states present. The sculpture by Augustus Lukeman replaces Borglum after earlier disputes.
Dorothy N. Biddick, a 15 year old high school student, faced arraignment on bootlegging charges after police raided her apartment during algebra study to arrest her for illegal sale and possession of bootleg liquor. Authorities debated jurisdiction as the case unfolded.
Oney Knight a 25 year old Tulsa oil driller was charged with murder in Coalgate after the April 3 killing of rancher Jack Jackson. Knight was arrested Sunday by Coal County Sheriff Fred Sherman and Deputy William Mann.
