Escaped Killer Captured Eight Hours After DC Jail Break
Joseph D. Medley, one of two condemned slayers who escaped in guards' uniforms, was captured eight hours after the April 3 breakout. He denied harming anyone and was seized at an Anacostia River boathouse. the other fugitive, Earl McFarland, remained at large. Medley had been implicated in the murders of three red-haired women in New Orleans and Chicago connections. The escape began at 4 15 A. M. and ended with a rope descent and a car theft before his arrest.

In Los Angeles on April 3, two sons challenged their mother Annie Koll Rosenbaum’s will which left each son one dollar and a rope to hang themselves. Children Hurt By Wheel Run Over Paper In Driveway
Benny Vee Hickman and Berry Smith were playing in the Hickman and Smith yards at 412 North Fast Fourth. Mr. Hickman rolled onto a large brown wrapping paper in the driveway, trapping the children. Benny Vee was released from St. Anthony's Hospital. Berry remains hospitalized with head injuries.
