Livestock market figures from Kansas City show hogs selling 5-10c above Wednesday’s average early, with top at 8.05 and lighter weights 7.35 to 7.85. Cattle and calves remain steady to higher with light supply, while sheep see no early sales and bids easing slightly. Financial Security Fund lists liquidating price at 1.4683 and offering at 1.61.

Five Amarillo Men Enlist in Navy Forces

Five Panhandle men will join the Navy soon with two more entering naval aviation. Chief Store-keeper A N Dearing made a key recovery during a recruiting tour in Amarillo. Enlistees include Ralph Sheridan Vernor Don Harrison Crumby Don Ingram of Amarillo Thomas Eugene Dewey of Pampa John Colson Schwan and James Sterling Brown Jr of Amarillo who had been out three years. Glenn Sparks Nelson of Amarillo and Charles Eddy Crowell of Bovina applied for aviation cadet training.

Cacti Drive Forth in Ellwood Park Garden Appeal

Chester Fitz city forester issued a second appeal for small cacti after Mrs. John Young of 3903 Tyler Street donated about 15 varieties and a good start. Fitz noted a prairie source for the corn cob variety. The fenced garden is under construction as a tourist attraction.

Zion National Park Attracts Visitors From Broad Range

Zion National Park in Southern Utah drew visitors from 48 states 14 foreign countries and three American possessions in the last travel year. The National Park Service register shows 6095 automobiles carrying 16178 persons visited the park.
