The Amarillo City Commission approved an ordinance increasing CITY WATER RATES by 60 cents effective after October 1. The hike applies only to the first 2,000 gallons consumed, per the local measure.
M L Vance, a Carson County farmer, was dragged a mile by a tractor when his leg tangled in wheat drilling gear. A neighbor freed him with a cutting torch and he reached a hospital for treatment.

Richard L. Bullock, 19, an Army deserter from Logan Utah, used improvised tools to fish keys from his cell in Childress County Jail. He escaped to downtown, exchanged prison attire for western wear, bought a bus ticket, and headed toward Amarillo before being recaptured in Memphis. He faces auto theft jail breaking and burglary charges.
M. L. Vance, 36, became entangled in a deep furrow drill on a Panhandle area farm. The tractor dragged him through fields and fences for about an hour before La Verne Edwards freed him with a cutting torch. Vance was hospitalized in Amavillo in fair condition.
