Amarillo hosts a large turnout for Canadian Day at the Panhandle Fair with visitors from Hemphill and surrounding counties. Frank Jamison leads Canadian Row as the crowd and exhibits receive ribbons and cups while Hereford’s irrigation excursion adds educational appeal.
Deaf Smith County received the big silver loving cup for top overall display across farm, orchard, garden and dry and irrigated land. Crosby County won a silver cup for best non irrigated general farms exhibit, with hall county and Randall county placing second and third respectively amid many visitors and satisfied exhibitors.
Hereford drew large crowds yesterday with nearly one hundred autos and many visitors arriving by train or car. The Deaf Smith booth buzzed with activity from morning to night as fairgoers toured the exposition. The city, an irrigation center, is shown strong support for the event and its management.
The race card lists heats for green trotters with a 150 dollar purse. Winners include Natado owned by Travis Shaw Canyon in first place and Tado in fourth with times 2:46 1-5. The two year olds race shows Champ Clark winning the first and third heats, Lightfoot taking the second, and Pilly A. placing in multiple heats. A third pace event with a 400 dollar purse features Coaster Walnut winning the first and third heats.
