A Santa Barbara SBA office opened for low interest reconstruction loans.
A Chicago Burlington & Quincy passenger train collided head on with a Rock Island line train on a siding in Montgomery near midnight. Fire officials said 20 to 30 injured were taken to hospitals in Aurora and at least four people were killed as units from about ten area communities joined the response.
