In district court Judge E H Bishop granted custody of 14 year old Enema Lucile Estes to foster mother Mrs May Pye of Wichita Falls. A $1000 bond was set for 90 days and the child released from a police matron and the Children’s Home Society oversight. Lucile had lived in several homes over ten years with enforcement of care and protection conditions.

A pitched battle on the sixth floor of Dallas County jail ended with Deputy Sheriff Willis Champion dying after wounds from the shootout. Inmates E. Gaines and Pete Welk opened fire.
