Four Plains towns Plainview Dalhart Spearman and McLean closed shops to lead large delegations to the Tri State Fair. The day featured street parades on Polk Street with colorful high school bands and radio broadcasts over KGNC. Plainview sent 100 plus cars led by traffic officer Jimmy Young with the Plainview High School Band under bandmaster R C Davidson.

Boiler blast kills two at Seminole oil well
A boiler exploded at a drilling oil well 12 miles northwest of Seminole in Pottawatomie County late today, killing Eddie O'Conner, 27, of Oklahoma City and S. Murphy, about 32, of Seminole, with two more believed dying and Alton G. Folson, about 30, of Seminole, hospitalized with severe injuries.
