Watkins plans to quit the national fight if fellow candidates pledge to uphold the 18th Amendment. The move signals a political strategy tied to Pro positions and party unity amid ongoing debates.
At the World Congress Against Alcoholism in Washington Aaron Watts pledges to withdraw if Harding and Cox pledge to enforce the Eighteenth Amendment and the Volstead Act. He says he will telegram his demand to the two candidates and may dissolve the Prohibition Party if needs.
Long shoremen and steamship owners of the gulf district held an executive session to decide wages when the current contract ends September 30. Gulf ports pay 80 cents hourly regular time, 1.25 for overtime, and 1 for Sundays and holidays. Workers seek a ten cent raise across all classes.
