The 12th Floyd County Fair opens Thursday at the Lockney fairgrounds and runs through Saturday featuring a parade livestock judging a Quarter Horse show and Ole McDonalds Farm with domestic animal displays. The event is part of a larger Amarillo area news roundup including library staffing plans and regional fairs.

Joe Melvin Allard a 22 year old farm laborer and father of two was charged with the murder and rape of Hazel Wofford 44 owner of Hazel's Beauty Shop in Lockney. arraigned before Justice S J Handley bond denied and he was sent to Lubbock County jail. The arrest followed a month long search by Floyd County deputies Texas Rangers and the DPS after a polygraph investigation and earlier suspicions.
Firemen battled a blaze Tuesday in a reservoir holding 12 000 barrels of residual oil at the Mobil Oil Co Torrance refinery. Officials said the underground reservoir, about a mile from refinery units, could be contained.
Peking Radio reported Indian troops removed two outposts in Chinese held Tibet by 1:30 p.m. EST. An Indian spokesman said troops skirmished with China twice in 24 hours and then retreated. The announcements suggested China might declare its demands fulfilled amid wider Kashmir tensions.
